Oh yeeeaaahhh. 😀
Sorry for the silence guys, I’ve been procrastinating seriously with posting on the blog + trying to take advantage of the Summer before it disappears. You know how erratic English weather can be.
Anyway, I’ll just dive right into the outfit details. I got this black skater dress that I bought sometime during Winter (you know, I just had to be prepared. Over half my wardrobe is in Kenya). So I bought this dress on a
sort of whim. I was on my way home from school one random night and decided to pass by New Look. So I tried on a burgundy skater dress in the size that I’d thought would fit me but it ended up being too big especially around my torso. So I spotted the same dress -in black and a size down- and just bought it without bothering to try it on. Here I was btw, trying to get new stuff that I wouldn’t normally wear in Nairobi (during the day without getting all those stares like “OMG your dress is short!” Pff!), and trying to dress out of my ‘comfort’ zone. Anyhoo, I got the dress. For quite a bargain as well. I only got to start wearing the actual dress around late Spring (if you could call it that ’cause Winter lasted till late April). In this post I’ve worn it in 2 different -but casual- ways.
Okay, so the picture isn’t full length but I had worn tights and the black ballet flats from my previous post. Here, I’d gone to visit my lovely friend Nash and her uber adorable baby in Fleet, about an hour away from London by train. I wore a yellow belt to cinch in my waist as well as add some colour to my outfit.
I was having a Marilyn Monroe moment here.
In the pics above I added the gold chain link necklace to give the outfit some edge and the blue cardi for some colour and give the dress a casual look and feel. Paired with the black single strap flat sandals (current favourite sandals) and I was feeling all summery! LOL. The weather wasn’t quite as summery that day though. I’d spent the weekend in Kent a couple of weekends back. Btw, I am currently obsessed by anything chain-linked! Note the sandals and the necklace, as well as the earrings in the first outfit.

I love this dress! There’s like 1001 ways to dress it up or down and that’s what I love about it. Say, you could dress it up by wearing a blazer or a coat and some ankle boots with tights or pumps or strappy sandals; or dress it down with a denim jacket and a pair of Chucks (or sneakers) for a casual look; for an edgier feel maybe pair it with a leather jacket and some cowboy boots or a parka and some flat boots or wellies, etc etc. Countless ways to dress it up or down!
PS – I’m soooo happy I’m still rocking my ‘fro!
Till next time,
