When you find that almost perfect coat…
Do you ever find yourself sneaking into your Mum’s closet and coming out with clothes you think she’d never wear
again? That’s exactly how I didn’t find the one in today’s post. Well, almost. Just after Christmas last year, my Grandma had my cousin and I rearrange her wardrobe because she had misplaced her ID card. It’s safe to say I found quite a number of items that I ended up snatching off her to keep for myself. The same happens with my Mum’s closet. I always go about ‘stealing’ her nice cardigans and tops. These days, she just hands over clothes to me. I have some pretty gorgeous tops my Mum has given me in the last couple of months that I can’t wait to share with you guys. Needless to say, the life of the party is this absolutely wonderful pinstripe coat that my Mum gave me about a month ago. *cue the happy dance*
Fashion really does repeat itself, doesn’t it? My Mum told me she bought this coat in the US eons ago and she thought I’d like it. Well, Mum, I LOVE this coat. It is one of those basic wardrobe pieces that elevate an otherwise casual outfit to an effortlessly chic one. The only problem is that it’s slightly big on the shoulders, but it’s nothing my good ol’ tailor can’t fix. It’s made from linen, so it’s a perfect way to keep warm ever-so-slightly with the current emotional weather in Nairobi. I can think of so many ways to style this coat, and pairing it with a white tee, distressed jeans and black heels was a perfect way to start off our relationship.
Tee – Monki (similar here)
Jeans – River Island (similar here)
Coat – formerly my Mum’s (similar here)
Heels (old) – DSW (similar here)
Earrings (old) – Forever 21
Lipstick – Brown lip pencil & NYX Cosmetics matte lipstick in Eden Eden
Distressed jeans are probably my favourite thing to wear at the moment. I’m thinking about collecting them in various styles and washes.
Hope you all had a great Easter weekend! Would you like a series of posts dedicated to styling this amazing coat?
Love and Love.
