If you live in Nairobi, are a naturalista and haven’t heard of Marini Naturals, then this is the post for you.
Earlier this year, I was contacted by Marini Naturals to be part of their natural hair education campaign. I was so excited because ever since I heard of Marini Naturals, which by the way, is Kenya’s first quality natural hair care line, I was like finally someone thought of making quality locally produced products for Kenyan naturals. Knowing myself and how much I love supporting local brands, I immediately jumped on board!
Due to my busy work schedule aka that 8-5 life, I requested that I shoot on a Saturday and Michelle, CEO and Founder of Marini Naturals (also someone I think is an absolute girl boss) agreed. I was super stoked for the shoot! We would be using only Marini Naturals products and I am all for trying out new local products! We shot pretty late into the night, but the end result was a BOMB perm rod set. Everyone was pretty much surprised at how much my hair had grown, given that I’d only cut in in April last year. Kelly from Amadiva Beauty Salon was my stylist for the day. Guys, Kelly has the most gentle hands a naturalista could ask for. He’s the same hairstylist that cut my hair last year, and he’s my go-to guy whenever I need a trim as he’s not too scissor happy.
But, I digress.
Since my hair was already washed and deep conditioned prior to the shoot, Kelly would only use styling products on my hair. So to prep my hair for the shoot, he spritzed applied a bit of the Marini Detangling Leave-In Conditioner and then lightly spritzed tiny sections of the hair with the Marini Daily Moisturising Spritz and used the Curling Butter on each section before rolling the hair into the perm rods. He did this for each section until each strand was held up in perm rods. I then went into the dryer (for what seemed like forever lol) and once my hair was completely dry, he used the Potent Hair Growth Oil on my scalp as well as used the same oil to separate the curls from the rod set.
Now, let me just tell you something about Marini products. They. Smell. So. Delicious. I personally use the leave-in conditioner on my strands as part of the LOC method of moisturising before I twist up or Bantu-knot my hair, or mix it with a little water whenever I’m in braids and seal with my oil mix. It’s amazing! I also love the curling butter, it’s super moisturising on my 4C hair and it just leaves my strands smelling so yummy! I also particularly loved the way my scalp slightly tingled when Kelly applied the hair growth oil on my scalp, which is most likely due to the peppermint and tea-tree oils.
Check out the perm rod set tutorial video we did for the Marini YouTube Channel too!
Kudos to Marini for making such amazing products! Loved being a part of bringing this project to life, so grateful to Marini Naturals for the opportunity!
