Lady in Red.
I never usually wear red- well, except lipstick. I find myself always gravitating towards cooler colours and neutrals in my outfit choices: blue, green, grey, white, black. You know, safe colours. Nothing too flashy, nothing too loud that could turn heads. I’m not sure why
(surely it must be age).
I came across this amazing red dress during one of my after-work errands a few weeks back at Yaya Centre. You know how you randomly enter a store and give the clothes rack a quick glimpse before you run out because you’re too tired to try on anything? That was me, the first time I saw the dress. Next time I thought about it was when I realised that I had absolutely nothing to wear for a friend’s wedding. I thought about that dress so much because; 1. I had nothing to wear and it was too late to get something tailor made; 2. I never wear red so I thought this would be the perfect time to have an excuse to wear red, the weekend before Valentine’s because why the hell not? The weekend before the wedding, I made sure to rush to Yaya and get the dress, fingers crossed because it was the only thing I had banked on wearing otherwise I was in deep shit with no outfit to wear. I truly am the face of procrastination.
There’s something about this dress that made me feel very sexy, modest and classy at the same time. Maybe because red is the colour of love (and no, I had no Valentine). It must be the lace. The intricate detail of the big apple red shade of red in none other but a lacey fabric when worn sat right on my knees. Not too short, and not too long. The neckline too. It had my cleavage all nice and covered up. Whew. You see, one of the woes of being a bigger, curvier woman is the inevitable ability to turn any piece of clothing into some sort of sexual affair even though it may not be the look you’re going for. What I’m happy about is that this red dress successfully managed to make me look age appropriate and not something like a grandma refusing to age. Naaah mean?
Hope you’ve all been well guys. The last few weeks have been the craziest to say the least.
Have a great week.
