Some things I’ve really been loving and enjoying using lately in my makeup and skincare routines.
I was at Craving Yellow’s meet and greet this past weekend and met so many followers. It’s really so nice and humbling and honoring to meet people who have legit helped you become who you are
or who take the time out to read the random bits about myself that I post on the internet. To those who asked me whether I stopped blogging, no, I haven’t (fortunately or unfortunately lol). I just get a little busy and a little bit lazy with work and then procrastination becomes the devil on my left shoulder. Oh hey, fulltime employment! Also, I blame it on adulting as well. I’m trying to be consistent. Please hold me accountable. I really do enjoy blogging but I tend to like relaxing more, especially after a long week at work. You know, ‘self-care’. Hehe.
I figured that it has definitely been a while since I shared some bits and bobs that I have enjoyed using. Something like my current favourites/products that have been on heavy rotation lately: Lime Crime Raven matte liquid lipstick; The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask; Raw African Black Soap; Sacha Cosmetics Buttercup Setting Powder and LA Girl Matte Pro Setting Spray.
Lime Crime Matte Liquid Lipstick in ‘Raven’
I think by now you all know my love for dark, bold (and most definitely matte) lipsticks. I’ve been steadily growing my collection since last year. I think I own about 9 dark lip colours in my makeup collection… and I’m not even done yet. I love the edginess that dark lips can give an oufit, bringing it up a notch. I got the lipstick from asmini beauty (@asminibeauty on Instagram), the same lovely store that gifted me the beauty box of life that I blogged about here. Can I also just say that this lipstick is almost non-transferrable. When I swatched it for the blog, that little love heart I drew on my hand took about 3 washes with soap to get it completely off. I think it would obviously come off better if you removed it with oil, unless of course that is not the intention. Loving the lipstick so far. Already worn it about 3 times (every weekend) since I got it.
The Body Shop Skin Clearing Clay Mask
I’ll be honest, this is probably the first store-bought face mask I’ve ever bought myself. I’ve always been (and always will be) that girl who mixes up face mask ingredients in the kitchen, however when I came across this face mask late last year, I knew I had to have it. Best thing about store bought masks is that they are super quick and easy to use. As soon as I’m done cleansing my face, I just slather a nice even layer of the mask on my face and let it sink in and dry as it works its magic. I love how refreshed my skin feels after using it, and how it has helped reduce breakouts. Sometimes I tend to get those huge, juicy ass zits on my cheeks during my period so sometimes I use the mask to reduce the harsh appearance of the zits by ‘spot masking’. I only apply the affected area to help reduce the redness and swelling and it works pretty well. Definitely sending my little brother for another tub.
Raw African Black Soap
If there’s a product that’s growing on me, it has to be black soap. I love the fact that it is 100% natural and can be used in a number of ways. At the moment, I’m currently loving using it as a facial cleanser- I just cut a slice from the bigger bar of soap and use it to remove any traces of makeup once I have taken the bulk off with coconut oil. Guys. GUYS. Let me tell you how effective black soap is in removing makeup. It removes absolutely every last bit of foundation from my face. The only downside is that it tends to strip the skin so it ends up feeling dry, but it’s nothing your night cream/moisturiser/coconut oil can’t fix. Also, it’s not very pleasing to look at. I mean, nothing as pleasant as using a turd-shaped piece of soap to cleanse your face, hey?
I also use the black soap as a shampoo. I usually just liquify it and mix it with a few drops of tea tree oil, coconut oil and olive oil and use it on my wash days. Best thing about liquefied black soap is that it lathers super easily and contrary to the skin, doesn’t leave the scalp/hair feeling stripped.
Sacha Buttercup Powder
I am definitely super late to the buttercup setting powder bandwagon. I’m not sure why, because I’m wondering why I didn’t buy this product sooner. I mean, my under eye concealer has stopped creasing! O. M. G. Hwhat? I always suffered from creased under eye concealer and shiny eyelids but ever since I got this powder, my makeup has thanked me. No more creases! That’s all I can say. I also got this from asmini beauty.
LA Girl Pro HD Setting Spray
I think we have established that I am those people that use products when the hype has subsided. Lol. It’s a good thing though, because at least I have enough information on a product before I buy it. Informed decision making like a bawse. Hehe.
I got the setting spray in SA last year as well, and I just love how it finishes my makeup off giving it one last seal of approval that it’ll stay matte and in place for a long period of time. This past weekend I had makeup on for about 16 hours. It was hard to believe that my face stayed matte all through, although I’m sure the spray- and my milk of magnesia as a primer- had something to do with it. Need to repurchase this very soon. I’m a little heavy handed with it. Lol.
Hope you are all having a great week!
