This past weekend my family held a 2-day event celebrating my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary. How awesome was it? Don’t you just love family events? I had fun! The event started on Saturday, which was a dinner and sorta ‘dance’ thingy that was held at a hotel in Nairobi. We had some good food and drinks! We kinda went all out with this event: we had a 3-course meal, drinks, got t-shirts branded for family members, our parents all chipped in so that our grandparents could stay at the hotel 2 nights. It was grand and I loved it!
Behold some pics from Saturday night…
We had my talented cousin Norman record some videos of my grandparents and other relatives wishing them a happy anniversary and he compiled them into one lovely video that I enjoyed watching!
In my tribe, we call our grandfather Sokoro and grandmother Baba. So, happy 60th anniversary Baba and Sokoro! 😀
Onto what I wore on Saturday night: the theme was African so I decided to go for a sort of tribal/African theme for the night. I wore a mermaid kitenge (African print) maxi skirt, a green vest and a cobalt/electric blue cropped jacket. For my shoes, I went with my current favourites, my brown wedges; bag – my brown and gold cross body bag (which I converted to a clutch for the night by removing the straps), silver tribal finger ring, and Aztec earrings. I was a little minimal on the accessories. Didn’t want to overdo it.
In case you were wondering, yes I got new twists done that morning. Need to accelerate growth for that natural hair journey!
This is the second time I’m wearing this skirt since I got it. The last (and first) time I wore it was at my sister’s traditional wedding ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, in January this year. Oh, we had such a great time in Lagos! 😀
I am so in love with these earrings you don’t even know! Wish I could run back to Forever 21! Malaysia I need to come back!
Sam’s blazer was also done by Boutique Mahali. Y’all should find your way there people! Amazing stuff!
Btw, we ended up going out Saturday night! I was with Jackie my sis, Sam, and other cousins. It was fun!
Now onto Sunday… We had a BBQ at my aunt’s house. It was cool! This was when we wore our branded t-shirts and took lots of pics and just generally had a good time. I decided to go super casual for this, so I just wore my simple black skinnies, the branded t-shirt, my very first DIY earrings, some pink arm candy, my yellow ballet flats and a denim jacket (not pictured).
I was super tired in these pics btw! Slept at about 5 am so I was sleep deprived!
All in all, the weekend was great! I had such a good time with family.
This was one pic heavy post! Hope y’all liked it!
I was a little busy with other things this week and a little demotivated (and tired) hence the lack of posting. Been feeling a little sick lately as well so hope I get better soon!
